In honor of my effort to avoid all holidays this year, we went on a cruise for Thanksgiving(thanks Mom and Dad!). Not that I do not have things to be thankful for, I do. I am just in more of a get through the year mood than a celebrate the year mood. Although the seas got a bit rough at times, we both agree a cruise is a nice way to see different places and a very nice way to unplug from the world because unless you want to pay 5 dollars a minute for phone or internet, you do not use either. Fantastic. Our cruise started in Baltimore (convenient as it is only an hour away) and went to Orlando/Cape Canaveral, Nassau Bahamas and Freeport Bahamas. One of the old military forts from back when the British owned the islands.
Built by hand by slaves. They were actually freed by queen Victoria in the middle of the project but they went back and finished it just for her and named it the Queen's Staircase. The waterfall is part of it.
Trying the local food. We were told we HAVE to try the Goombay Punch. It was pretty tasty pineapple flavored soda (a bit of a let down though when it was discovered that it was made by none other than the American born Coca Cola Company even if it is not actually available in America). For being ruled by Britain for so long, Nassau sure does look like little America.
David ate Conch fritters twice while we were there. He loved them! Before we got to Nassau it was his dream to try conch. Check that one off the dream list!
I love all the bright colors here. And the water is amazing!
Before we left Nassau, they had to leave us with some final Island advice:
And finally on to Freeport. Which was very chill, very relaxing, but without much to do (good thing the ship was only there for about 5 hours). We walked around some shopping areas, soaked up some sun, ate some food, and got back on the ship.
And of course between all that Cruisin', there was plenty of Snoozin'!
